Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin located on top of a toe or outside the little toe. They mostly form on the feet and can making walking quite painful. However, they are usually self-treatable by wearing proper fitting shoes and protective pads. Avoid high-heel shoes.
Causes:
- Body weight
- Constant friction and pressure
- Wearing ill-fitting shoes or wearing sandals or shoes without socks
Symptoms:
- A thick, hard patch of skin
- Bump on the skin
- Pain or tenderness of the affected area
